FALL 2023 CLASSES
MATTHEW
The survey of Matthew is going to help us find the truth about Jesus as it unfolds before our eyes. The theme of this Gospel known as the Hebrew Porch to the New Testament is king and his kingdom. Biblically a porch means an entry way for new beginnings. this gospel is an entryway that points to Jesus as our gateway to God’s kingdom.
We will study Matthew as he points out our Holy Spirit, prophecies fulfilled, Jesus’ chosen disciples, His miracles, His teachings, His sermon on the Mount, discord at Olivette, the Kingdom of Heaven and show us who God is as well as the Holy Spirit.
As we develop our study, we will discover truth and meaning in God's word ad we will explore various passages and have foundational questions in mind, questions like is there a command, universal truth, or promise from God? Is there a warning to heed or an example to follow or avoid? Is there evidence of God's character? Is there a prayer that I can make my own or a prayer for others of our world? Is there a personal application instead of thinking of others? Is there any doubt or fear or unconfessed sin that you have not recognizcd? Is there an encouragement for you, for me to keep on persevering?
THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
In this course we will inquire into this masterpiece of the Gospel of John. It is not one of the synoptic gospels, it stands on its own. We will search the scriptures from the Old Testament and the New Testament to gain a greater personal discovery of the preeminence of Jesus as it is recorded in John’s gospel. In this class we might say listen, we’re searching the scripture to recognize that missing piece in that intricate puzzle--in that book and once it’s discovered, suddenly the Bible from the beginning to the end unveil God’s masterpiece. And what’s His masterpiece? The Word, the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. So we will confess this powerful gift that God has given to us. We will look at 18 inquires. To find out what these 18 inquiries are, you must register for this masterpiece class as we delve into the Gospel of John.
CHRISTIAN LIFE
This class is designed to teach us how we are supposed to live. Paul said that whenever possible, we’re to live our lives at peace; especially within the house of faith. In our days we need to learn the pattern for gracious living more than understanding doctrine, we as Christians must have our power to conform to the cross of Christ. This course provides steps towards the balanced Christian walk. The initiatives in the Christian life are never ours, the opening moves is always God’s; at
the dawn of creation - God, at our conception at birth - God, at our rebirth through faith - God, the province that guides our lives every step of the way - God. All begins with Him, all is ever within His love and care. His — the initiative; ours — the response. God plants the seed, we produce the harvest, though in truth He is at work in that too. More than any doctrine, we Christians must have our count to confirm to the cross of Christ.
This course provides steps towards the balanced Christian walk.
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
How much fruit do you want in your life? The Bible tells us in Matthew 5, if you let your light to shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in Heaven. The Bible says, in Galatians 5, but the fruit of the Spirit . . . after listing the works of the flesh, the Bible lists the fruit of the Spirit is love and it lists the other varieties of love.
I know for me I’ve eaten tangerines, I’ve had oranges, I’ve had grapefruit, it’s one fruit, but when you remove the outer peel, there are pegs of that fruit on the inside and in the Fruit of the Spirit class, we are going to peel back the fruits of love according to Galatians chapter 5; and within that fruit of love, we are going to partake of each peg: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.
In our class, we will learn what is the fruit because we know that the fruit of the Holy Spirit really refers to the nature of the spirit that’s revealed in the life of the believer. The Bible tells us about the gifts of the Spirit and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. The gifts are plural and they are given for power. The fruit of the Spirit is singular and that’s especially for our character — it’s about the character of the life of the believer. The spiritual fruit is evidence of spiritual maturity and in our class we are going to deal with two kinds of fruit. By the end of this class, we should be able to identify the outer fruit of the Holy Spirit, the inner fruit of the Holy Spirit. We should be able to explain the importance of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, be able to define the inner fruit of the Holy Spirit, and then we are going to distinguish between the peace of God and peace with God.
